adeelarshad82 writes "We've been hearing about various Android malware
spreading through the Chinese markets. Well, here's another one to look
out for: meet ADRD (aka Trojan:Android/Adrd.A) which is [0]expert in
sucking your bandwidth. The malware downloads a list of search URLs and
then performs those searches at random in the background, which as the
screen shots [in the linked article] show leads to excessive data
charges. Similar to other Android malware this too is distributed through
wallpapers which are infected repackaged versions of legit wallpapers."
Adds reader Trailrunner7: "Lookout, a mobile security vendor, said it has
identified [1]14 instances of the malware repackaging itself in various
wallpaper apps and specifically in the popular game RoboDefense, made
available in alternative application markets. The trojan works by duping
an infected app into sending encrypted data containing the devices IMEI
and IMSI to a remote host. HongTouTou then receives a set of search
engine target URIs and search keywords to send as queries. It then uses
these keywords to emulate search processes, creating searches in the
search engine yielding the top results for those keywords and clicking on
specific results. To the search engine, the searches appear to be coming
from a mobile user using a mobile web browser with User-Agent
corresponding to the UCWeb browser."

that music service subscriptions don't operate at margins "[2]anywhere

An anonymous reader writes "The National Institute of Standards and
Technology, guardian of America's cryptography standards, has
[0]announced a new extension to the SHA-2 hashing algorithm family that
promises to boost performance on modern chips. Announced this week, two
new standards SHA-512/224 and SHA-512/256 have been created to
directly replace the SHA-224 and SHA-256 standards. They take advantage
of the speed improvements inherent in SHA-512 on 64-bit processors to
produce checksums more rapidly than their predecessors but truncate
them at a shorter length, reducing the overall timespan and complexity of
the digest." Further details are [1]available from NIST (PDF).

AHuxley writes "The Capital reports on a new cyber curriculum at a
Maryland high school to [0]feed the ever growing needs of the NSA and
Cyber Command. A quote from Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD) about job growth
in the local national security sector stands out: '... in 10 years, there
are going to be more tech jobs than Silicon Valley.' Could the new
funding for the expansion of the National Security Agency and the Army's
new Cyber Command be the next big growth area for the US?"

KRK-TR writes "Sony Ericsson has [0]unveiled the first 'PlayStation
phone,' called the Xperia Play. The device resembles a regular smart
phone but has gaming buttons that slide out from beneath the screen."
Eurogamer got some [1]hands-on time with the device, and they had this to
say: "The recessed digital controls are precise and responsive but have a
hard, microswitch-style 'click' to them which contrasts with the soft,
springy touch of a PSP or a Dual Shock pad. There are left and right
shoulder buttons recessed into the handset you need to find these with
the tips of your index fingers, rather than the joints as you're used to.
The most interesting inputs are the twin circular touch-pads between the
buttons. These effectively replace the on-screen virtual analogue sticks
that blight so many smartphone games and they do the job well. ...
Despite the nominal similarity to PSPgo, it doesn't bear any family
resemblance to or design hallmarks of SCE products, and indeed is only
passingly identifiable as a Sony Ericsson phone. It's very much an
anonymous Android handset with the added novelty of game controls."

Westboro Baptist Church is infamous for their "Love Crusades," obnoxious
displays of insensitivity and homophobia at the funerals of fallen
American soldiers. The controversial if monotone message of the "Love

homosexuality. The crusades are part of a hate-based mission started in
Kansas by the WBC and Fred Phelps.' In an [2]open letter on AnonNews,
'We, the collective super-consciousness known as ANONYMOUS the Voice of
