1. Facebook Group Wants Hillary for President in 2012

A Facebook group called Hillary Clinton for 2012!! is organizing a meeting in Washington to discuss plans to coax Hillary into running for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2012.

Secretary of State Clinton has said she has no interest in running again for public office.

But the Facebook group's organizer and publicist, Will Bower, said, "We are simply aiming to keep HRC's strongest supporters united for if and when that day comes when Hillary either challenges in 2012 and/or makes a run in 2016." So reports Paul Bedard in his Washington Whispers column for U.S. News & World Report.

"And, of course, to rally as many people as possible to strongly encourage and petition her to do so — preferably the 2012 option," Bower added.

Hillary Clinton for 2012!! says on its Facebook page: "Like Hillary, we believe there's nothing that we can't do if we put our minds to it. Now we've got a lot to do. We've got to roll up our sleeves and get back to work for the American middle class and the American people that Hillary truly supported throughout her campaign. An agent of change and a champion, Hillary will emerge stronger than ever in 2012 and take back the White House."

A television ad that ran in September touted Hillary for president in 2012: "She has more experience working in and with the White House than most living presidents. She is one of the most admired women in our nation's history. Let's make sure the president we should have elected in 2008 will be on the ballot in 2012."

The commercial was paid for by a Chicago dentist and aired in several cities beginning with New Orleans.

And a Newsmax/SurveyUSA poll conducted after the midterm elections found that Clinton would trounce Barack Obama by a 20-percentage-point margin in a head-to-head race.

The poll asked: "If there were an election for president of the United States today, and the only two names on the ballot were Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, whom would you vote for?"

Sixty percent of respondents chose Clinton, while 40 percent chose Obama.

2. Rep. Pence Seeks to Defund Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood's Cecile Richards earned more than $397,000 in 2008 as president of the organization whose Health Centers performed 324,008 abortions that year.

Richards received $385,163 in salary and $11,876 in benefits and deferred compensation in the fiscal year ending in June 2008, the latest for which the organization has publicly released an annual report.

Planned Parenthood can well afford her compensation — it received $349.6 million from taxpayers in that fiscal year.

The abortion total is included on the "fact sheet" published by Planned Parenthood, which also lists the number of "adoption referrals to other agencies" in 2008: 2,405.

Now Rep. Mike Pence, an Indiana Republican, is taking action he hopes will lead to the defunding of Planned Parenthood.

In January 2009, he introduced legislation that would amend the Public Health Service Act to prohibit "providing any federal family planning assistance to an entity unless the entity certifies that, during the period of such assistance, the entity will not perform, and will not provide any funds to any other entity that performs an abortion."

The bill was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, where it languished.

But with Republicans set to take control of the House in January, Pence plans to reintroduce the bill, according to his press secretary, Mary Vought.

She told CNSNews: "Congressman Pence will continue to fight for the unborn and intends to reintroduce his legislation to defund Planned Parenthood this coming Congress."

Pence recently told ABC News: "Let's deny all federal funding to Planned Parenthood of America. That would save $350 million right off the top."

He added: "I have to tell you as I travel around the country, the American people — millions of Americans, more every day — are offended that the largest abortion provider in America is also the largest recipient of federal funding under Title X."

3. Rand Paul Pens Book on Tea Party

Republican tea party favorite Rand Paul, who was elected to the Senate from Kentucky on Nov. 2, is writing a book entitled "The Tea Party Goes to Washington."

The book will focus on his plan "to bring the U.S. government more in line with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, to stop spending money the country doesn't have, to stop borrowing, to balance the budget and reduce the size of the government," according to its New York publisher, Center Street, a division of Hachette Book Group.

Laura Mullen, publicity manager for Center Street, said Paul will be making "select appearances" to promote the book after its publication in February. She did not say if Paul will have a ghost writer to assist him, Bluegrass Politics reports.

Paul, the son of Republican Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, takes office in January.

A news release from Center Street called Paul "an ambassador of the tea party movement, adding: "If the recent midterm elections were a declaration of the war on the status quo, Rand Paul leads the battle charge."

4. Teddy Bear Giveaway Cheers Ailing Children

For more than 20 years, the Theodore Roosevelt Association has been bringing smiles to sick children by delivering teddy bears to those hospitalized for serious medical treatment.

The giveaway has expanded to hundreds of hospitals. And this year, Internet technology analyst Case Hicks became the program's No. 1 fundraiser.

Hicks was inspired by a chance meeting with one teddy bear recipient in the St. Louis airport a few years ago.

A year earlier, Hicks had participated in a Teddy Roosevelt Association event at a hospital in Denver, appearing in Rough Rider costume to give teddy bears to ailing youngsters.

At the airport, a 4-year-old girl — clutching a teddy bear — tapped him on the knee and said, "Thank you for my teddy bear. He goes with me everywhere."

Hicks told Newsmax: "I was stunned. I didn't expect a child to remember me, and I was humbled by it."

Theodore Roosevelt lent his name to the teddy bear after an incident in November 1902. The president was on a bear hunt in Mississippi, the story goes, when he decided not to shoot a wounded black bear. That inspired a Washington Post cartoon depicting the event, which led to the furry toy Roosevelt allowed to be named "the teddy bear."

5. We Heard. . .

THAT incoming House Speaker John Boehner won't create the controversy his predecessor Nancy Pelosi stirred up by using Air Force aircraft for expensive flights to and from her home district. The Ohio Republican has announced he'll be flying commercial.

Come January, Pelosi will have no other choice but commercial flights. When she surrenders her speaker post she'll lose her access to military aircraft for visits to her California district.

THAT two-thirds of American voters favor cutting the federal payrolls by 10 percent over the next decade, according to a new Rasmussen Reports poll.

Only 22 percent of respondents said they opposed cutting the payrolls, either by reducing the number of workers or cutting salaries, and 12 percent were unsure.

The federal workforce grew to its largest size ever this year, 2.1 million people, including 1.4 million civilian employees.

The average federal employee now earns more than $123,000 a year in pay and benefits, according to USA Today — twice the figure for the average worker in the private sector.
