Newser's Holiday Contest

Newser's Holiday Contest

We absolutely love Top 10 and Best-of lists here at Newser, and judging by the stories that make our Most Popular list, so do our readers. And no month of the year is as packed with lists as December — there's a seemingly endless supply of sometimes insightful, sometimes hilarious Best (or Worst) of the Year articles out there.

So, to entertain us during the holidays, we're running a user story contest devoted to these gems. Between December 14 — 31, simply find one of these lists, summarize it, and post it to our User Grid. The authors of our two favorite lists will win a cash prize of $100 each — yes, $100! (It's the holidays, so we're splurging). Some things we'll be looking for:
  • Is it a list? Pretty obvious, but worth mentioning. Anything along the lines of "Best ___ of the year" or "Top 10 ___ of 2010" will be considered. And note that it doesn't have to be a Top 10/Best of list — it can be a Top 5 list, or a Worst of list, for example. We're flexible. See here, here, and here for examples of list stories we've run in the past.

  • Is it about something interesting? We don't want to read a story about the Top 10 auto insurance providers, and neither do our readers.

  • Is your story getting any love from social media? The more shares and tweets your story gets, the more that tells us that our readers liked it, too.

  • Is your story well-written? Take the time to proofread to make sure your story is clear and readable…and written in your own words. See our quick tips for more pointers.

We'll announce the winners on January 4.

Ready to get started? Click here to write a story, or head on over to our NBU forum to ask any questions.

Happy writing!
