TONIGHT ON THE CBS EVENING NEWS

Here's a look at what we are working on for tonight's broadcast of The CBS Evening News from Anchor and Managing Editor, Katie Couric:

Hi everyone,

A federal judge has temporarily blocked Obama administration regulations expanding stem cell research. CBS News correspondent Wyatt Andrews will have the latest.

It's a survival story that defies belief. On August 5th, a copper and gold mine collapsed in Chile, trapping 33 miners inside. Seventeen days later, we learned they are all still alive. But this story is only just beginning. Chilean authorities say it could take up to four months to free the miners. In the meantime, they'll lower food, water and medicine more than 2,200 feet below the surface to keep the miners alive. CBS News Correspondent Seth Doane is following developments.

The news keeps getting worse on that massive egg recall. It's now been expanded to 22 states, with more than 1,300 cases of salmonella, possibly linked to tainted eggs. And there may be more recalls to come. Elaine Quijano will have the latest.

Tiger and Elin Woods are no longer a couple. Nine months after Tiger crashed his car outside his Florida home in the middle of the night, setting a chain of events that would expose his extramarital affairs, Mr. and Mrs. Woods are officially divorced. CBS News Correspondent, Jeff Glor reports on what effect this will have on Woods -- his golfing -- and how much money he stands to lose in the divorce settlement.

This was supposed to be the year of the outsider in politics, as voter discontent was to manifest itself during primary season. But that hasn't exactly happened. In three key primaries taking place tomorrow, Washington insiders are back on top in the polls. CBS News Correspondent, Nancy Cordes will explain why the season isn't going according to script.

I'm not sure if you heard the news, but we lost our dear colleague, Harold Dow, over the weekend. Harold was a remarkable reporter for The CBS Evening News, and later, with 48 Hours. Harold covered some of the biggest stories of our time -- from the Vietnam war, to the Patty Hearst kidnapping, to the 9/11 attacks. We'll end tonight with a look back at Harold's career, from fellow 48 Hours Correspondent Peter Van Sant.

See you tonight. Katie

Here's an early look at one of the stories we are working on for Tuesday night's broadcast of The CBS Evening News: We'll take a closer look at the cornerstone of the U.S. exit strategy in Afghanistan. . . Training Afghan forces to take responsibility for their own security. That story and more Tuesday night only on The CBS Evening News.

In addition to the day's top headlines, here's an early look at some of the stories we are working on for tomorrow morning's broadcast:

An Early Exclusive. . .9 year old Logan, from Joliet, IL, is credited with saving his two year old brother in a backyard swimming pool accident last Friday. He had just taken a C-P-R class and was able to keep his cool and apply the life-saving lessons he learned, stepping in when his mother, Tabitha was unable to administer C-P-R herself. Understandably, both of his parents, Tabitha and Brent, breathed a sigh of relief when Brendan woke up, virtually unscathed, in the hospital. They were equally proud that Logan was able to save his little brother's life. In a network morning exclusive you'll hear first hand from his parents, Tabitha and Brent and then from, Logan about how he kept his cool, amidst his mom's panic and why he feels his actions were not heroic but what anyone in his position would have done. A miraculous story you won't want to miss.

You've all heard how important drinking eight glasses of water a day are and most of you are probably also guilty of ignoring it. Well, here's a reason to put it back on your list of things to do, especially if you want to lose some weight. Findings in a new study, released at this year's American Chemical Society's annual meeting, by senior study author Brenda Davy, an associate professor in the department of human nutrition, foods and exercise at Virginia Tech, revealed this to be an effective way of shedding those pesky pounds. Conducted over the course of twelve weeks, participants who drank two eight ounce glasses of water before each meal, compared to those who did not, were found to lose five pounds more than dieters who did not. Medical Correspondent Dr. Jennifer Ashton will tell you why this works and why, above and beyond losing weight, staying hydrated can also kick up your health, not to mention give you glowing skin and even keep those wrinkles at bay. Information you'll definitely want to have.!

Everyone who has been the victim, or has known someone who has been bullied, knows just how destructive it can be. And now with the internet, it isn't just relegated to the playground, school gyms, locker rooms or cafeterias. Cyber bullying through social networking sites, where teens can remain anonymous; texting or just plain e-mailing, is insidious, just plain dangerous and has long-lasting consequences. Not only do victims grow up with poorer self-esteem; statistics also show that unchecked bullying can escalate to more severe violence. Author of Curse of the Good Girl, Rachel Simmons and C-NET reporter, Caroline McCarthy, who has reported on the subject, will tell you what to look out for and if you feel your children are being bullied, what you can do about it. Important information, parents, teachers and even family friends, will want know.

If you are a parent or caregiver, you are probably finding it difficult to carve time out for yourself, especially if yours is a single parent household. Juggling work and the demands of home can lead to burnout and even depression. So, what's key IS finding the right balance so that YOU have some time for pampering--even if that just means reading a book or putting your feet up. Impossible? Not so. Shannon Eis a parenting expert and contributor for Time To Play magazine will have four really easy stress-busting ideas that will put the bounce back in your step and the smile back on your face. Valuable advice that will help YOU keep your sanity while also allowing you to accomplish life's daily tasks.

Holiday travel deals -- believe it or not, should be booked now. If you do, you are likely to save money on both hotel rooms and airfares. With airlines still in the red, flight schedules are much reduced, which of course, means there are fewer lower costs seats. Even hotels have cut down on the number of budget packages they make available. So, if you are planning to travel on Thanksgiving, Chanukah, Kwanza, Christmas or New Year's, you'll want to hear this report and take some notes while you are at it. CBS News Travel Editor, Peter Greenberg will tell you everything you need to know to find the best holiday travel deals -- savings that could come in handy when you go shopping for those all important gifts.
