TONIGHT ON THE CBS EVENING NEWS

Here's an early look at what we are working on for tonight's broadcast of The CBS Evening News.

Hi everyone, Katie's off. I'm Erica Hill.

Hurricane Earl has put the Eastern Seaboard all the way up to Canada on alert for a wet Labor Day weekend. 26 million people could face hurricane and tropical storm conditions within the next 48 hours. Earl's a Category 3 storm right now, with winds near 125 mph. We'll have complete coverage of this massive storm tonight with CBS News correspondents reporting from North Carolina, Long Island, and Cape Cod.

Our next story got everyone's attention today. An oil production platform exploded and caught fire today off the Louisiana coast--about 200 miles west of the Deepwater Horizon site. All 13 crew members were rescued. But the Coast Guard said a mile-long oil sheen was spotted near the platform. CBS News correspondent Don Teague reports tonight from Houma, Louisiana.

Police in Marin County, California are facing a lawsuit after two deputies tasered a 64-year-old man in his own home. In a police video, Peter McFarland can be seen screaming in agony as officers pumped high-powered volts of electricity into his back. Police believed the man was suicidal and should go to the hospital. McFarland is suing the local sheriff's department; claiming officers entered his house without a search warrant and used excessive force. CBS News correspondent John Blackstone will have that story tonight.

See you tonight. Erica

Here's an early look at one of the stories we are working on for Friday night's broadcast of The CBS Evening News: In his Everybody In The World Has A Story, Steve Hartman takes his unique story telling skills across the world to Oman a little country next to Yemen in the Middle East. He'll introduce you to Abdullah al Shukely, who went from a mud hut to a mansion and you won't believe how. His amazing story, Friday night only on The CBS Evening News.

FRIDAY MORNING ON THE EARLY SHOW

Harry Smith and Erica Hill anchor from New York. Dave Price brings us the weather from North Carolina. Betty Nguyen brings us the headlines. Julie Chen is on assignment. Maggie Rodriguez is on maternity leave.

In addition to the day's top headlines, here's an early look at some of the stories we are working on for tomorrow morning's broadcast:

Wall Street kicked September off with a bang but with the jobs report looming ahead, stocks fluctuated today with predictions that the job market remains weak. Early Show Business Correspondent, Rebecca Jarvis will explain the correlation between unemployment figures and the stock market and what this means for you and your pocketbook.

And, did you know that Labor Day weekend is the best time to find a great deal on a new car? With the delivery of 2011 models dealers are trying to clear out excess 2010 inventory and are offering great close-out deals. Early Show Business and Economics Correspondent Rebecca Jarvis is back with some valuable pointers on where you can find the best deals and how to negotiate when you get there.

Can you imagine parking your car with a valet and then coming back to find that your odometer shows it has been driven over 700 miles? That's what happened to one Westchester couple who parked their car with a valet at the airport. And, this wasn't an isolated incident. In our exclusive investigation tomorrow, you'll hear from some valets who say it is common practice to put the pedal to the metal and take your car for a joy ride --especially if it's a porshe or jaguar. Early Show consumer correspondent, Susan Koeppen will give you valuable tips you'll want to know so this doesn't happen to you. Important information you'll want to know so that you are prepared the next time you leaves your keys with a valet.

We all go through anxiety when we face a fear of the unknown and children are no different. For them, starting school for the first time or transitioning from middle school to high school means new expectations which can be frightening. So, as a parent or family friend, what can you do to ease their stress? Child and adolescent psychologist and Early Show contributor, Dr. Jennifer Hartstein will have those answers for you. She'll have valuable advice on what you can do to build your child's self-esteem and calm those back to school jitters. Definitely a report you won't want to miss.

Our Early Show Summer Concert series continues tomorrow morning with a rockin' performance by five time Grammy winner, Usher. You'll get a sneak peek of his newest release Versus with a performance of D.J. Got Us Fallin' In Love. He'll also be performing his 2004 hit Yeah. We hope you'll join us and rock to his unique beat.

And then there were three. . .after tonight's vote, the chance at $500,000 will be within reach for the finalists left standing in the Big Brother house. For drama you won't want to miss, make an appointment to watch Big Brother tonight (8:00pmET/7:00pmCT). Then, make sure you tune in tomorrow morning for Julie Chen's exclusive interview with the evictee--great dish and dirt you won't want to miss.

We'll also bring you up-to-date on Lindsey Lohan as her travails continue. Rumors abound that she was not welcome at the premiere of her new movie, Machete but, are they true? Get the inside skinny tomorrow morning when we report what really happened.
