TONIGHT ON THE CBS EVENING NEWS

Here's a look at what we are working on for tonight's broadcast of The CBS Evening News from Anchor and Managing Editor, Katie Couric:

Hi everyone,

They're fired up and they think they're ready to make history. The Tea Party Express took off from Reno, Nevada today, taking aim at Democratic candidates with an eye toward winning back Congress for the GOP. Sarah Palin was among the speakers as the bus tour kicked off. They plan to crisscross the country, rallying support for candidates including Nevada's Sharron Angle and Delaware's Christine O'Donnell. CBS News correspondent Ben Tracy reports tonight from Reno.

Also tonight. . .many Republican candidates are campaigning against Barack Obama during the midterm elections--deriding the $787 billion stimulus program. But many of these same critics are also lining up to secure some of that stimulus money for their home districts. CBS News Chief Investigative Correspondent Armen Keteyian has that story.

There are new privacy concerns regarding some of the most popular apps on Facebook. CBS News Business and Economics correspondent Anthony Mason reports that several applications have been transmitting users' personal identifying information to dozens of advertising and internet tracking companies. Facebook says it's working to fix the problem.

New guidelines for CPR. Forget mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Chest compression works better, according to the American Heart Association. CBS News Medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook will demonstrate the new techniques, which can save lives.

Finally. . . CBS News correspondent, Steve Hartman is back from his Everybody in the World has a Story tour, and he has a special guest tonight: Astronaut Jeff Williams, the man who spun the globe to pick the locations for Steve's reports. Turns out, for an astronaut, he's pretty down to earth.

See you tonight. Katie

Here's an early look at one of the stories we are working on for Tuesday night's broadcast of The CBS Evening News: A nationwide scandal -- fake insurance companies making millions of dollars off of tens of thousands of victims. Why aren't they being criminally charged? Our special investigation, Tuesday night only on The CBS Evening News.

TONIGHT ON DAVID LETTERMAN
Everyone's favorite Mentalist, Simon Baker, gives Dave a first-hand look at his hit detective series which airs Thursdays at 10pm. Then, the one and only Nicole Snooki Polizzi from MTV's hit series, Jersey Shore brings her own brand of humor and unique personality -- will she shock Dave? Plus, you'll enjoy a performance by musical guests, Maroon 5. They'll be performing one of their songs off of their new 2010 album, Hands All Over!

TUESDAY MORNING ON THE EARLY SHOW

Harry Smith, Maggie Rodriguez and Erica Hill anchor from New York. Dave Price brings us the weather.

Did you know that seemingly healthy foods can actually make you gain weight? In fact, some low-fat foods and flavored waters are loaded with sugar and packed with calories -- which can contribute to weight gain versus weight loss. Dr. Pam Peeke, Chief Medical correspondent for Discovery Health will tell you about the diet wreckers you'll want to stay away from and how to read food labels so you don't get tricked into thinking you are choosing foods that tout themselves as healthy but really are not. So, if you are getting ready to go on a diet or are on one--you'll definitely want to make an appointment to watch.

Redefining Beautiful... That's what six high school girls from Colleyville, Texas are doing through a new school club they've started. In an effort to celebrate natural beauty and self-confidence, each Tuesday, club members go to school make-up free and all sporting the same purple Redefining Beautiful t-shirt. And their program is gaining momentum, already up to 180 participants -- they are enjoying support by faculty, the surrounding schools and, yes, even boys. Samantha, Lauren, Laura, Emily, Nina, and Caroline will join us exclusively to tell you why they began this initiative and how it has helped build self-esteem, not just for themselves but their classmates as well. Then, they'll tell you what they've learned and share valuable tips for the students in your family so they too can redefine beauty in their own lives. A great example of how beauty is built from the inside -- not with make-up and fashion.

Beware... when you use Apps on social networking sites, like Facebook your personal information may be compromised. In a Wall Street Journal investigation, some of the most popular apps on Facebook are transmitting information about you -- AND possibly even your friends -- to advertising and Internet tracking companies. This practice breaks Facebook's rules, and renews questions about the ability of social networking sites to keep profile information secure. Technology Expert and Early Show contributor, Katie Linendoll will give you valuable advice about what you should and shouldn't do when you communicate and even play games on sites like Facebook so that you can keep your identity safe. We hope you'll make an appointment to watch this important report.

We all know that obesity can put people at risk for diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure and an early death... but did you know your pets are also at risk? According to a study by The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention they are. Early Show Resident Veterinarian Dr. Debbye Turner Bell will tell you how to know if your pet is too fat and then she'll give you valuable advice on how to put your dog or cat on a diet and get them back in shape. Pet owners -- this is a segment you just can't miss!

Attention baseball fans -- a new biography is on store shelves and it will definitely bring you back to your childhood. Jane Leavy, the acclaimed author of The New York Times bestseller Sandy Koufax: A Lefty's Legacy, joins us Tuesday morning to talk about her new book, The Last Boy: Mickey Mantle and the End of America's Childhood. To write this book Leavy interviewed more than 500 of Mickey's friends, family, teammates and opponents; and also to the legend himself. It is a fascinating look at the life of an American Icon and its full of anecdotes and answers to questions the world has been asking for years -- you'll find out, for example, what really happened to Mickey's knee in the 1951 World Series. Join us for a first hand account of one of the most popular baseball players to ever step on the field.
