TONIGHT ON THE CBS EVENING NEWS

Here's a look at what we are working on for tonight's broadcast of The CBS Evening News:

Hi everyone, Katie is off tonight, I'm Jeff Glor.

Just one day after the Pentagon announced that all U.S. combat troops had left Iraq, insurgents struck - in a big way. 13 coordinated attacks were carried out today, in every corner of the country. At least 36 Iraqis were killed, another 203 wounded. Insurgent groups, including al Qaeda, are clearly trying to undermine the Iraqi security forces. Can Iraq handle its own security? CBS News Correspondent Terry McCarthy spoke exclusively with General Ray Odierno, the top commander of U.S. Forces in Iraq.

Al Qaeda is not just causing trouble in Iraq. Obama administration officials now believe the terror group has become a major force in Yemen. In fact, they believe that branch may pose as much of a threat to the U.S. as the al Qaeda chapters in Afghanistan or Pakistan. Why Yemen, and why now? CBS News National Security Correspondent David Martin will have that story tonight.

"Don't let the bedbugs bite." Tonight, CBS News Correspondent Cynthia Bowers reports from Ohio - which has three of the top ten cities battling bedbugs. There is an effective weapon against battling the pesky bugs - so why isn't it being widely used?

Finally tonight, now that the divorce is final, Elin Nordegren is finally speaking out about her failed marriage with Tiger Woods, his multiple affairs--and what exactly happened on the night that he crashed his car. CBS News Correspondent Kelly Cobiella has that story.

See you tonight. Jeff

Here's an early look at one of the stories we are working on for Thursday night's broadcast of The CBS Evening News: Is there a double standard when it comes to ethics in Washington? CBS News Correspondent Sharyl Attkisson will look at the evidence Thursday night, only on The CBS Evening News.

THURSDAY MORNING ON THE EARLY SHOW

Chris Wragge, Erica Hill and Jeff Glor anchor from New York. Dave Price brings us the weather. Harry Smith and Julie Chen are on assignment. Maggie Rodriguez is on maternity leave.

In addition to the day's top headlines, here's an early look at some of the stories we are working on for tomorrow morning's broadcast:

Five years after Hurricane Katrina, we'll have a unique perspective on what happened during those awful first few days of the disaster -- through the lens of one New Orleans' top photojournalists. Ted Jackson was on assignment for the Times-Picayune in August of 2005. He's covered many hurricanes and been in war zones before, but NONE of that prepared him for what he saw happening to his own city... the chaos, the desperation, the feeling of utter hopelessness. He recorded some indelible images on his still camera -- haunting photos that captured the mood, which, for many, became the first indication that Katrina was not just a bad storm, but a catastrophe. Tune in to The Early Show Thursday morning as Ted Jackson shares his thoughts -- and pictures.

If you're like the majority of today's technologically connected society, you use your mobile phone while you wait on line, exercise, and even drive. In reality, you're constantly multitasking and using the part of your brain that scientists call "the Inner CEO," but now new research from the University of California San Francisco suggests that today's technology could be depriving your brain of much needed downtime. In tomorrow's HealthWatch, Early Show Medical Correspondent Dr. Jennifer Ashton will tell you why your brain needs to relax. She'll also have valuable advice on how to take a much needed mental time-out.

From Married with Children to Anchorman to Samantha Who, it's hard to believe that Emmy Award-winning actress Christina Applegate has been making us laugh for close to twenty five years. Now she's back in theaters playing Drew Barrymore's sister in the new romantic comedy "Going the Distance." Don't miss The Early Show Thursday morning as Applegate will give you a sneak peek of her new film and share what it's like to work alongside co-stars Drew Barrymore and Justin Long.

Soak up the sun and have some fun with nine-time Grammy Award-winning artist Sheryl Crow! Since her first album was released in 1993, she has sold an incredible 16 million albums in the United States, and 35 million worldwide. She'll perform all your favorite hits as well as some new tracks from her latest album, 100 Miles To Memphis If you appreciate good music, you'll want to tune in to The Early Show Thursday morning as our Early Summer Concert Series rolls on!
